Although Australia is one of the largest countries in the World and quite a substantial e-commerce market. Amazon still hadn’t entered Australia with a dedicated Amazon Australia website. But finally, on Tuesday, 12th December 2017, Amazon opened its metaphorical doors and began taking orders on Australia’s dedicated Amazon website ( and it is on the trajectory to have a huge impact not only on Australia but also the global e-commerce markets.

What took so long?

The biggest question on everyone’s mind is, “what took so long?” since Amazon Australia is something that most people assumed already existed. But for the longest time, Australia did not have a dedicated website for the country. Instead, Australians had to order from Amazon’s US website which resulted in them having to wait longer for their products and pay prohibitively expensive shipping fees.  This was because Amazon didn’t have a warehouse in the land down under, which meant that they had no place to store all their products that had to be shipped to Australian residents.

Then finally, a few months ago Amazon built and started operating a new 24,000 square meter Fulfillment center in Melbourne and subsequently began fulfilling orders from the Australian Amazon site from 12th Dec.
